Our digitized world has many benefits over the pre-digital age. However, in our discovery practices, we’ve lost one great habit—doing preliminary walkthrough of material potentially relevant for disclosure.

Just as we walked through paper documents in the past, today we should do walk-throughs of electronically stored information (ESI). This nearly extinct ritual gives the discovery team the lay of the land before they dive deeper into the evidence.
