As physics limit our ability to overcome distance and time factors involved with transmitting data from where it’s generated to the aggregation point (whether that be the cloud or an enterprise-centered location), latency-sensitive applications need to process data closer to the end-user for faster response. This topology, called “edge computing,” is similar to on-premises computing, but it also creates unique challenges in terms of data center management, security and documentation.
