Caregiver Burden for Alzheimer’s Patients

This report highlights findings from the first of several planned qualitative surveys to assess caregiver needs and opinions about clinical trial participation.

In a 2022 online survey, 254 primary caregivers in the United States shared their candid responses about caregiver burden and clinical trials.

The average age of the surveyed caregiver was 51-70 years, and they had been providing care for 0-10 years.

The majority (82%) of the respondents were family members of the patient for whom they are caring, and the remainder were friends or people who did not define themselves as family but reside in the same household.

57% care for a loved one who is partially dependent; 28% care for someone totally dependent; and 15% care for someone with some level of memory loss/cognitive impairment yet independent – providing support and transportation.
