This paper will discuss how to conduct pay equity analyses for similarly situated employee groupings (SSEGs) too small for regression analysis. The paper will begin with a discussion of common small group statistical tests (e.g., Fisher’s exact test, rank sum test), introduce a new method – Cohort Ratio Comparison (CRC) – that can be used on very small SSEGs, and conclude with a discussion of how the CRC can be used to evaluate potential systemic gender and race/ethnicity differences across these small groups rather than just within individual small groups.
