In this day and age, diversity and inclusion are not just buzzwords; they are the true path to success. Short-term programs that focus on upping the averages of minorities or women do nothing to help the long-term prospects of the company. Diversity shouldn’t be a program created by HR, but instead a new mindset, a cultural revolution that takes place within the company, allowing it to move beyond quotas or percentages, and truly become a company that is blind to color, race, or creed, but farsighted in terms of raw talent, creativity, and innovation. Mere tolerance is unacceptable. Instead, companies should strive for acceptance, respect, and the understanding that every person is unique on the inside. However, the main reason a company should aim for diversity in its workforce isn’t just because it will allow for growth, creativity, and innovation. It isn’t just the cool thing to do — it is the right thing to do.
