Sleep is an important part of overall health. Insufficient sleep, or poor quality sleep, are associated with various health issues including weight gain and obesity, high-blood pressure, and diabetes. In workplace settings, poor sleep is linked with absenteeism, presenteeism, decreased performance, accidents and occupational injuries, and increased healthcare costs.
Unfortunately, our culture often sees sleep as unproductive time, which has led to incentives for sleeping less. This has resulted in many people not getting enough sleep, or not fixing problems with sleep.
This presentation will provide some background on how sleep works, how it plays so many important roles in health, and how this impacts the workplace. We will discuss various sleep-based solutions at the individual, group, and system level.
You will walk away with the ability to:
1. Begin to evaluate the impact of lost sleep on workplace performance, employee health and wellness, and even organizational financial performance.
2. Conceptualize how sleep-focused approaches and fatigue management can be implemented at the individual, group, and system level.
