Managing Wealth as a Corporate Executive

A study of executives’ behaviors and preferences reveals how they make important wealth decisions.

To understand how executives find the right wealth advice and ultimately make important decisions, The Northern Trust Institute surveyed 797 high-net-worth individuals and studied the responses of those who self-identified as executives.

  • Executives are more confident in their financial knowledge compared to the broader population of $10M+ investors.
  • Over 80% of executive respondents consider themselves to be particularly knowledgeable about the markets and retirement.
  • 1-in-4 executives independently research financial advice on a daily basis.
  • After reading financial advice, 65% of executive respondents called their advisor and 47% met with their advisor to validate next steps.
  • 85% of the executives we surveyed rely on their advisor to build a team of trusted professionals.
  • Executives continuously review their advisors. Only 32% of executive respondents strongly agreed with the statement, “Once I have a trusted relationship with my advisor, I will work with them for life.”

The Northern Trust Institute is dedicated to helping executives achieve more with their wealth through tailored strategies backed by research and innovation.
