The COVID-19 pandemic changed our lives. It made us alter our behavior and that – perhaps surprisingly – affected the display industry. When many of us began working and entertaining at home we wanted or needed new devices, which boosted the demand for displays, including liquid crystal displays (LCD) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technologies. As well as shifting the supply and demand balance it also encouraged display manufacturers to invest in new ideas and products.

However, the situation changed post-pandemic. A devastating drop in demand impacted display makers’ new investment in capacity and technologies. Now, in 2023, we’re entering another new era. The worst has passed, but there are still challenges ahead.
