Seattle Fire Department: Improving Firefighter and EMS Responses

Seattle Fire responds to nearly 80,000 fire and medical incidents in the City of Seattle each year. The Department’s Medic One Program provides the city with Advanced Life Support (ALS) activities and responds to about 46,000 Basic Life alarms and 19,000 ALS alarms per year.

The Department needed the ability to leverage new mobile technology that could support increased bandwidth and handle other key department objectives.

Partnering with Sierra Wireless allowed the Department to:
-    Give critical emergency communications a dedicated broadband network
-    Transmit larger data sets and photos
-    Update files and software to MDTs and mobile devices on a regular basis
