This is Why Virtual Desktops Belong in the Cloud

Having a physical desktop, and the required infrastructure to accompany it, is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Not only are physical desktops expensive and cumbersome, they are not able to grow and move with the changing tech-savvy and mobile workforce. Additionally, physical desktops are expensive, and with the newest migration to Windows 10, many desktops are not able to support the new technology. Everyday, companies and businesses are turning to virtual desktops in the cloud to help manage and solve these problems.

With the newest migration of Windows 10, several companies are looking to upgrade their current operating system. The older PCs though, are not able to support Windows 10 which is causing many companies to incur additional expenses. The option quickly becomes limited to purchasing new PCs or upgrading existing PCs which leads to even more cost. Furthermore, the new era of workers is becoming increasingly mobile. Couple this with the fact that several business require mobile use, not always working in the traditional office, and the fact that workers can be on several different types of mobile technology.

To combat these growing problems, companies are turning to VDI, or virtual desktop infrastructure. By utilizing VDI, companies are able to keep information central. This makes deploying and supporting current workers easy no matter where they may be. Further more, it is of greater safety because employees are not at risk for damaging, losing, or having physical devices stolen that may contain valuable or sensitive information. But using a traditional server to support VDI can be expensive, complicated, and cumbersome. This is why virtual desktops belong on the cloud.

Many cloud based virtual desktops are outsourced to a management company. This allows the infrastructure to be located off site, saving the company money. Most cloud subscriptions are available with a monthly subscription allowing the company more cash flow without the tremendous upfront cost. Supporting companies for the cloud commonly have several locations around the world which allows increased mobility for workers. Being able to work from the coffee shop or the home office improves productivity. Plus, choosing to move a virtual desktop to the cloud takes a matter of minutes instead of months to purchase new physical desktops or even years to design infrastructure for internal servers. The cloud also allows increased flexibility with the option to upgrade or scale back options and apps based on the month to month subscriptions. By choosing to move virtual desktops to the cloud, not only will companies see a decrease in overall IT expenditures, they will see an increase in worker productivity due to the freedom granted to workers.
